How do I get started?

How long will it take for my publication to be live?
Depending on the size of your publication, it may take anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour.
What types of files can I upload?
PDF files are the only format we accept. PDFs retain all of your artwork, fonts, and formatting for a seamless transition to the web.
Do I need to install anything?
You do not need to install anything to use our service. In order to view the publication, you will need to have
Is your site secure?
Yes. We use 128-bit encryption for all personal information that is transferred including our login and payment pages. Payments are accepted via a secure gateway. We do not store any credit card information.
What forms of payment are accepted?
Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
Does Keep Trees® own my content?
Absolutely not. You created the content so it is yours! You have the ability to take your publications offline at any time. We will also remove your content from our servers upon request.
Can I make it look like the publications are coming from my domain as opposed to keeptrees.com?
Yes. You can put our player inside your webpage by using a simple iframe (
) in your html code. Members with active publications have a utility in their Keep Trees® dashboard to help them generate specific HTML code for this feature.
Do you offer an "offline" version?
Yes. We'll convert your publication to a format you can use for CDs, flash drives, and other media.

Can I host my content on my own servers?
Yes. We offer two solutions: One with unlimited publications (

About your publication:
Do you support video in your publications?
Yes. We support YouTube (
) and Adobe® Flash® (FLV) formatted video (
Can I link directly to a specific page of my publication?
Yes. Add "#pageX" to the end of the URL, where X equals the page you want to open. You can also simply go to the page and copy the URL from your browser.
I uploaded the wrong publication or I have a correction. What do I do?
If your publication is "active", use the update feature in your Keep Trees® dashboard. If you only need to update certain pages and not the entire publication, you can use the "Edit" tab in your Keep Trees® dashboard.
If your publications not active, upload the correct publication when you can, and simply delete the old one. These features are free and easy to do!
Can I search through my publication? How does that work?
Yes, the text in your publication is searchable. During the conversion process, all of the text is copied to an XML file that links the words to pages.
But I want to be able to search for words that are in images (not text) too. Is there a way to perform that kind of search?
Yes! We've provided the ability to easily edit the XML file, page by page. You can add keywords, tags, and anything else to make that page show up when those terms are searched.

How do I create a PDF?
Without going into too much detail, we recommend using either Adobe Acrobat or Foxit PDF Creator. We have step-by-step instructions to help you during the process once you have
What page size(s) can I use?
Almost any size, although it should be consistent throughout your publication for best results. You can see how your publication will look for free by registering and uploading your PDF. There is no obligation to preview your content!
Can it display spreads that are 2 pages?
Yes. See an
. First, you will need to make sure that your spread is actually 2 separate pages and not one large page. Secondly, the first page of your spread should start as an even-numbered page. If it happens to fall on an odd-numbered page, you can resolve this issue by inserting a page before the spread.
About the mobile version:
Will my publication be viewable on mobile devices?
Yes. Once you activate your publication, it will be available to read on any mobile device with a web browser. This includes, but is not limited to, iPhones, iPads, Android phones & tablets, and Blackberries.
How soon after I activate my publication will the mobile version be available?
The mobile version will be created the first time someone on a mobile device visits your publication. The time it takes to generate the full mobile version varies depending on the size of your publication, though it is generally just a minute or two before the reader can begin viewing it.
Is the mobile version of my publication different than the “desktop” version?
Yes. We have streamlined your publication to display as quickly and efficiently as possible. Since many mobile devices are not capable of running Adobe® Flash®, the mobile version does not include the page-turning animation. Instead, we offer the ubiquitous “swiping” feature to turn the page.
What features from the “desktop” version are available in the mobile version?
Both the search and the view thumbnails features are available for easily and quickly navigating through the mobile version.
Are links available in the mobile version?
Yes, but with a catch. If you have created links within your PDF in Adobe Acrobat they will not carry over to the mobile version. However, our Link Tool allows you to easily create links once you have uploaded your publication. Links created with the
